The City of Irving, with Blue Marble Media, LLC, completed the Interfaith Stewardship project designed to educate faith leaders and the faith community about environmental sustainability. Irving is the first community in the area to focus on creating a method to reach out to various types of faith-based organizations promoting environmental stewardship.
Blue Marble Media has compiled all of the educational materials and developed a toolkit that includes information such as tips on how to reduce energy and water consumption, as well as information on recycling, buying local, backyard composting and green finance. The kit also provides energy audit forms, reproducible fact sheets and artwork, games for youth, and activity ideas for the faith-based community to get involved in protecting the environment.
“There are so many great aspects to this tool kit,” said Fran Witte, solid waste programs and marketing supervisor for the City of Irving. “I have been brainstorming this idea for at least five years and it’s wonderful to finally see it start to happen.”
The toolkit annual subscription consists of a notebook filled with specialized materials and activities. Subscribers will also have access to an online community that will encourage organizations to network successes, pitfalls, questions and solutions.
